The third album from Deep Purple, recorded by the original Mark I line-up of Rod Evans, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Nick Simper and Ian Paice. It was their last record before Gillan and Glover joined and the band went on to In Rock. The cover is a detail from Hieronymus Bosch's The Garden Of Earthly Delights.
A real mix of styles: heavy organ rock on Chasing Shadows and Why Didn't Rosemary?, a Donovan cover in Lalena, and the 12 minute three-part April, which takes in an orchestral middle section written by Jon Lord. This is an early UK Harvest pressing on the yellow and green label with the EMI box logo, in the gatefold sleeve with the purple inner spread and the band's own track notes.
