This was the first album by the re-formed Damned line-up featuring Algy Ward, formerly of The Saints. The record marked a move beyond the band’s raw first-wave punk sound, incorporating garage rock, psychedelic touches, pop melody and theatrical humour.
It is sometimes incorrectly associated with Stiff Records because The Damned’s 1977 debut, Damned Damned Damned, was released on Stiff. Machine Gun Etiquette, however, was a Chiswick Records release.
